Up To

I’ve been watching these really helpful Pro Tools DVDs. Tutorials on everything related to Pro Tools, from setting up a unit, to editing, recording, file management, keyboard shortcuts, plugins, blah blah.

Anyway so I just watched chapter 13, “File Management of Pro Tools Systems”, and guess what! It turns out that Pro Tools automatically saves every take on your hard drive, whether or not you delete it inside the program or not. So I was advised to go and delete all the excess files (or “takes of ideas” I didn’t want, or bad takes, or whatever). I went through 6 different folders (or, 6 different songs/ideas) and by deleting all the garbage, I cleared out 6 GB.

To give you an idea, I have about 40 folders (or song/song ideas) to go. So it should give me more space.

I see no smoothie recipies, so either a) no one reads this blog, b) no one knows any recipies, or c) I should just keep making my own. I think I got a good one:

1 pear (skinned, de-seeded), 1 small banana, 150 ml whole milk, 50 ml water, little sugar = pretty good. Our blender also has this coffee grinder think, so next time I get coffee I’ll have to test out Helen’s “bigger coffee ground” theory. Okay, sleep time.

Smoothies

Philips Comfort

Anyone have any creative, good tasting smoothie recipies? We just bought a blender (pictured), it’s the only choice in Chuxiong, the Philips Comfort.. blender. I already made these, because I only have bananas:

Recipe:
3 small bananas + 250 ml milk + 1 pouch of soy/protein powder + a sprinkle of sugar
Result: goowie thick banana mess, bubbles formed like molten lava at the top, felt like a meal
Score: ?????

Recipe: 1 small banana + 150 ml spring water + 5 small ice cubes + 1 frozen ice pop (vanilla flavor + raisins)
Result: Water, ice chunk, cold, slight banana flavor, maybe needs two ice pops
Score: ?????

Recipe: 2 small bananas + 175 ml spring water + 1 soybean pouch + 1 frozen ice pop (vanilla flavor + raisins)
Result: Not bad, but after drinking three of these today I’m kinda sick of bananas.
Score: ?????

Fam Update

I’ve just be recording lately. Today, Chun Mei ate out on the balcony. The season is changing, interesting time. The other day the sky was red again.. I’ve noticed that it happens when there are these light blanket-like clouds during the day, then when the sun sets, it turns the whole sky a deep orange-red. Too bad I didn’t have my camera. Anyway, the weather is getting a little colder and the days are shorter, but it’s still in the 70s during the day.

How to set up Mahjong

Screenshot_2.jpg

1. Start with 17 “stacks” (a row in front of you, doubled up, 17 long, totalling 34 pieces, as shown)
2. Winner rolls, counts the number shown on the dice, if it’s a 3 and a 4, starting with himself, counts counterclockwise to see which stack he will take from. He counts 3 in from that stack (3 and 4, 3 is the lowest), and takes 4 pieces.
3. Take 4 pieces
4. Take 4 pieces
5. “Jump” (or tiao), as shown in the video
6. Continue to play.

You can win with four triples and a double (triple being 1-2-3 or 7-7-7, I just call it a “triple” // double being “5-5″ or “6-6″)
Or you can with with a quadruple (4-4-4-4) using the “Face up” pieces in the center, more difficult.

HT & Macbook Notes #2 & House

First, as HT flies home now, just wanted to say, great trip with Helen, perfect weather, amazing pictures, and a bunch of good conversations. We all had fun, and ate well.

frames.gifSecond, this is a screenshot of the how fast this sucker can rip a DVD (benchmark for speed). It was over 65 frames per second, compared to the G4 which averaged 10-18 FPS. Rosetta apps are basically the same as my old G4, so I’ll have to wait for programs like Final Cut, Adobe products, and Sibeius before I see the increase in speed. It’s interesting how some companies like Digidesign (Pro Tools) released a Universal Binary update for free within weeks of the new Intel chips, and other companies just aren’t there yet.

Third, good news, we should be able to move into our new house in the next week. It looks great, some small details to work out. I can’t wait to get in there and start producing.

images.jpgFourth, I’m downloading Bootcamp to see how Windows XP Pro will work on this computer. I hope this isn’t jst 10 GB of wasted space. And I also hope there is an unistaller.

Lastly, Hel and I took over a thousand pictures, so I’ll post a gallery soon, and make a movie with iMovie (my version of Final Cut Pro isn’t universal yet) to see the results on this MBP.

Seatguru.com

airplane.gif

This site [www.seatguru.com] is fresh — I wish I would have known about it earlier. You can pick any airline and view details about checking in, baggage weights and limitations plus much more in a very clear, uniform layout for any airline.

Best of all, it shows you all the best and worst seats on the exact plane you’re flying on, as well as any amenities (looks like Ma’s flight on Cathay Pacific may have AC/DC power ports?) and tips on why certain seats are no good.

Skype Video

Screenshot_1.jpg

Skype (video beta for Mac) automatically found my Panasonic video camera. Yeah whatever, right? It found it attached through the FIREWIRE connection! Before my Mac would only allow the USB connection, and you had to set the camera to “web cam” mode.

I don’t know what happened since then (about two years ago) but now it automatically finds the camera through the Firewire port. That is crazy.
