Firewiredirect.com has a serious problem

fwd.gifAnd here’s why. I bought three hard drives from them in the last three years. They all failed.

(2) Stingray 250gb externals - firewire 800
(1) Mach series 80gb (ipod sized) - firewire 400

Today my last Stingray failed, but I managed to get 80% of the stuff off of it before it completely died.

I lost hundreds of hours of work because these drives failures. I returned one drive when I was in Switzerland last year, I had to pay for shipping both ways (almost 1/2 the price of the drive itself), and it took about six weeks to get it back, and it was never properly fixed.

I’m sure some people have had good experiences with Firewiredirect.com, but I just can’t believe that all three drives, all purchased at different times, all died in a matter of three years.

Anyone have any recommendations for other external hard drives companies? Reliable drives?

Buy LaCie, they make amazing drives in all different shapes and sizes.

    Hello Rob,
You are wrong about LaCie drives - though they look good and are very inexpensive. If you have a hard drive for longer then 12 months with LaCie, you will not receive any warranty support nor help in solving your problem.

EVEN the harddrives are OEM and you cannot get warranties directly with the Manufacturer. We use standard distribution hard drives, various brands and they have 3 year to 5 year warranty - depending which one came in your unit.

We have many hundreds of customers per year coming to us for solutions. Though we cannot save a hard drive from failure we can sometime recover, fix bridge boards, move hard drive in another chassis all services we provide that LaCie does not. I am out of the country at this moment but I would be interested in knowing your RMA numbers you had trying to repair your drives?

One good deed deserves another and I hope I can earn your respect back.

As a professional Violinist you are blaming the music writer for poor sound from the musician . We do not effect the properties of hard drives just put them in enclosures and sell solutions. That would also be like us assuming and/or knowing you were related to this linked issue (you were not even born):

which I know you were not even born then, but you get my point.

I would be interested in knowing how old the hard drives were, what mechanism was inside. If you traveled a lot - which your site states - could it be power related. There are many things that can effect the life span of a hard drive. I am interested in hearing from you and if you would like trying to solve your issues. I do not think you would get this type of response from LaCie but who cares - I only care about our business.

I also noticed you utilize your blog as a making money - google add words - maybe this is also the reason trying to - how do you say “stir the soup”.

Looking forward to your constructive and solution oriented response.
    Best Regards

FirewireDirect has always been professional and solution oriented for our law firm.

I am sorry to hear the blogs Violinist did not get his units repaired or resolved. I can see how that would be hard when the shipping costs might exceed the value of newer units. To bad people post things like this for possible commercial gain - I also see the google add words bars - but does not look professional nor reflect good “VIBES” for someone that makes apparently beautiful music.

Good Luck with your LaCie drives - let me know in 12 months, if you have a problem, how they attempt to repair or resolve there hard drive issues.

    Best Regards
