The New Media Room

New additions to the media room (with your help):

8020a.jpgGenelec 8020a’s are the smallest (and newest) Genelec monitors you can get. Yes, they look like dinky computer speakers, but they’re award-winning, top-of-the-line near-field monitors. They deliver incredible sound with solid bass and balanced mids and highs. In general, monitors are used for mixing and mastering and are not meant to be ghetto-blasters. They’re meant to be honest devices, fine-tuned to properly mix for a range of speakers. Because of their size and weight, I had to get them and leave those Event 20/20s at home to be sold on eBay.

hd650.jpgSennheiser HD650 Reference Class open back, circumaural (around the ear) headphones are lightweight, do not cause ear fatigue, and are extremely high quality. Open back means that the speaker is not closed, as you can see in the picture. Closed back is good for recordings when you want to cancel out all other sound (the drums), but those tend to cause ear fatigue. I can’t wait to record with these. If I need to cancel out sound I’ll use my trusty Sony’s, which are cheap, but hey, they used them on all the musicians at Cirque who didn’t use inner ear monitors.

002.jpgDigi 002 Rack is the master of disaster. The ultimate upgrade from the Digi 001, Digi 002 Rack is the latest FireWire-based Pro Tools system from Digidesign. 32-tracks simultaneous recording, up to 256 Midi tracks, up to 96 kHz sample rate, 4 Mic Ins with very good pre-amps, 8 Inputs, 8 Outputs, and two words — FIRE, WIRE.

The mixing board you guys are going to bring is going to help a lot, and the Triton will act as a controller for Reason 3.0, and I can also use the internal sounds to make some new stuff.
